What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit. Cookies let us do things like keep you signed in between pages, remember whether you prefer light or dark mode, and — with your permission — measure which parts of the site are used most.
The tables below list every cookie that Edlintics sets, grouped by category. For each cookie we state its name, purpose, how long it lasts, and the third party responsible (if any).
Necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the site to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core features such as staying signed in or choosing a theme. We do not ask for consent before setting them.
| Name | Purpose | Expiry | Third party |
|---|---|---|---|
better-auth.session_token | Session token issued by Better Auth. Identifies your signed-in session so you stay authenticated between page loads. | Session (browser close) or 7 days if “Remember me” is chosen | None (in-app via Neon) |
better-auth.csrf_token | Cross-Site Request Forgery token. Protects form submissions from being forged by malicious third-party pages. | Session | None (in-app) |
edlintics_consent | Stores your cookie consent choice (the level you selected in the consent banner). Prevents the banner from reappearing on every visit. | 12 months | None (in-app) |
NEXT_LOCALE | Stores your language preference so next-intl can serve the correct locale on subsequent visits without requiring a redirect. | 1 year | None (Next.js, in-app) |
Analytics cookies
These cookies are optional. They are set only when you choose “Essential + Analytics” or “All” in the consent banner. Analytics cookies let us measure which pages are visited most, where visitors drop off, and which features cause confusion. We use two analytics providers — PostHog and Google Analytics 4 (GA4). No advertising networks receive this data.
| Name | Purpose | Expiry | Third party |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_* (multiple cookies) | PostHog product analytics. Tracks page views, feature interactions, and anonymised usage events. The data is used solely to improve the course experience — for example, identifying lessons where students spend disproportionate time. No data is sold or shared with advertising networks. PostHog is hosted in the EU (EU cloud). | Up to 12 months (varies by specific cookie) | PostHog, Inc. (EU cloud, Frankfurt). See PostHog Privacy Policy. |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics 4. Distinguishes anonymous visitors and sessions so we can measure traffic sources, page views, and conversion to enrolment. The script loads only after you allow analytics cookies, and is disabled (and these cookies cleared) if you later withdraw consent. No data is sold or used for advertising. | _ga up to 2 years; _ga_* up to 2 years | Google Ireland Limited. See Google Privacy & Terms. |
Marketing cookies
No marketing cookies are set at V1. Edlintics does not currently use any advertising networks, tracking pixels (such as Facebook Pixel or Google Ads tags), or remarketing tools.
This section is present for forward-compatibility. If advertising surfaces are added in a future phase, the specific cookies and their purposes will be listed here before they are activated, and your consent will be requested separately.
