A vertical four-step flow diagram presents the strategy map's causal chain from the bottom upward. Learning & Growth sits at the base: building the capabilities and systems that enable strong Internal Processes. Effective internal processes satisfy customers by delivering the intended value proposition. A satisfied customer base then generates the Financial returns targeted at the top of the map. The three connectors — enables, satisfies, generates — make the assumed cause-and-effect logic between the four Balanced Scorecard perspectives explicit.
